broadband News VoIP Regulation Heats Up - Wisconsin latest in regulatory push: " VoIP Regulation Heats Up
Wisconsin latest in regulatory push
The quest to regulate VoIP continues, as this time Wisconsin informs 8x8 that their Packet8 service is operating without the consent of the Wisconsin Public Service Commission. The commission has alerted the company that not only must they receive certification to operate, but that Packet8 bills for intrastate services to Wisconsin customers are 'void and not collectible.' The state of Minessota recently informed Vonage that the company could not operate in that state without receiving authorization to engage in business as a telco; in turn adhering to all traditional telco guidelines. The trend is something Vonage co-founder Jeff Pulver has been predicting for some time, and the argument has frequently spilled over into our forums."
