Light Reading - Networking the Telecom Industry: "VOIP Stocks: How High? "

LightReading is probably the best source for telecommunications information. They also recently covered the run up in VoIP stocks and inlcuded 8x8 in the companies they reviewed.

Motley Fool did a very short article on VoIP, and mentions 8x8 (parent of Packet8) in the article as a speculative investment.

broadband Forums Voice over IP how do I build a gateway cell phone to packet8: "how do I build a gateway cell phone to packet8
Hi, I am useing Packet8 in Asia, and it workds great!!! I was just wounder how I could set up soemthing, like a local PSTEN number I culd call form my cell pyone and connect to my Packet8 line so I could make calls with the high cost of lon distance. If I lived in the US I do not think it would be worth it to do this unless I made lots of interrnational cals, cut since I am calling friends and family, and some of my family members back in the states are NOT to health it would be great to have that ability. Can somone give me some info on what I need to buy and how to set it up? Thanks "

...or so I am told.

As soon at the new software image for their DTA is released, the DTA will support more CODECs which in turn will open the door for greater compatibility between the FWD and Packet8 communities.

Hopefully sometime in December we will formally announce the interconnect between FWD and Packet8."

broadband Forums Voice over IP Packet 8 rocks!

broadband Forums Voice over IP Packet 8 rocks!: "I love it more and more... The nicest thing is not to get a bill for almost $50 from BellSouth for a phone line with no long distance included. I just made a 1 hour 3-way phone call to the Philippines and my mom in the US(normally long distance). The phone call was flawless. I was suprised at how loud the person was in the Philippines. I had to turn my phone volume down.

Nice job, Packet8..... "

I received my DTA and hooked it up yesterday. I was extremely surprised and pleased with the quality of sound while talking. When I told people I was talking to them over my internet connection they had a hard time believing me because of the clarity. The small size and attractiveness of the DTA 310 is incredible and the message indicator light is a plus too.

I really can hardly believe that it works as well as it does. This is the coolest new technology I've seen in a couple of years."

Need recommendations on both corded and cordless phones that work well with Packet 8. Must have message indicator, call waiting/caller ID, 3-way calling, etc."

Fool.com: 8x8 Catches Fire [Motley Fool Take] December 2, 2003: "8x8 Catches Fire"

Interesting article about Packet8's parent company, 8x8. The writer seems to be down on the prospects of the stock. Perhaps 8x8 doesn't conquer the telecomm world and the stock doesn't take off as the writer suggests, but the service is great and I expect the company to do well in the marketplace. Though I don't know how/if that will translate into the stock price.

FOOLS RUSH IN (AGAIN)
By CHRISTOPHER BYRON
8x8 Inc.: Provides long-distance phone services over the Internet.

Mr. Byron thinks Packet8, and 8x8, are doomed by larger competitors. I tend to disagree. Good detractor article about Packet8.
